Project portfolio management exists to answer a simple question: are we investing in the right things, in the right way, to get the results the organisation actually needs?
This session cuts through the jargon and gets to the heart of why portfolio management matters - not just for senior leaders, but for anyone working in projects. We’ll look at how a well-run portfolio boosts strategic impact and explore seven practical techniques that help turn good intentions into real outcomes:
1. Moving beyond strategic alignment to strategic contribution
2. Balancing risk & return
3. Portfolio categorisation & tailoring the investment criteria
4. Ensuring disciplined investment decision-making
5. Project staggering – doing more by doing less
