Walking into an event like Project Forum can feel a bit overwhelming. Lots of stands, lots of conversations, and not always obvious where to start.
So here’s a simple way to get real value from the day - especially if you work in a PMO.
1. Know who to speak to (and why)
It’s not just about collecting brochures.
Use the exhibition to have proper conversations with:
- Tool providers – not just what it does, but how it actually helps PMOs solve real problems
- Training providers – how they build capability, not just deliver courses
- Peers – often the most valuable conversations you’ll have all day
The aim isn’t to “buy” anything - it’s to understand what’s working (and what isn’t) across the industry.
2. Ask better questions
You’ll get more out of the day based on the questions you ask.
Try things like:
- What are your customers struggling with right now?
- Where do PMOs typically get this wrong?
- What does good look like in practice - not theory?
- What’s changed in the last year?
These kinds of questions cut through the sales pitch and get you to the useful stuff. Plus the people on the exhibition stands are experts in their own right so their answers will be gold!
3. Make the most of the Birds of a Feather sessions
This is where Project Forum really comes into its own.
These sessions are small, informal, and built around real challenges - not presentations.
Go in ready to:
- Share your own experiences (even the messy ones)
- Listen to how others are tackling similar issues
- Explore ideas, not just “best practice”
It’s one of the few spaces (apart from the House of PMO!) where you can have honest, peer-level conversations about what’s actually happening in PMOs right now.
4. Don’t just attend - participate
The value of the day comes from what you put into it.
Have conversations. Ask questions. Challenge ideas. Follow your curiosity a bit.
That’s where the real learning happens.
Come and find us
We’ll be there representing both House of PMO and PMO Learning (the training arm of the House) - talking all things PMO capability, development, and what’s really changing in the profession.
Whether you’re looking to build your own skills, develop your team, or just sense-check what you’re seeing in your organisation, come and have a chat.
